Ghanaian Media Can Do Better For Comedy – Lekzy DeComic

Multiple award-winning Ghanaian comedian Lekzy DeComic is not happy with the way the Ghanaian media is treating the comedy sector in Ghana’s entertainment industry.

He believes the media has been very supportive to the comedians, but they can do more to make their sector also grow like they do for music and other sectors.

Speaking to, the sensational comedian disclosed that some of the media houses always write negative things about comedians in Ghana rather than the positive write-ups that will put more light on their sector in order to attract corporate bodies to come on board so as to sponsor them anytime they are having their own comedy shows.

“Anytime we host international comedy show here in Ghana, many people believe we do better than the foreign people who come. But most of the media houses will not even congratulate us or even talk about the positive performances on social media or traditional media which would make the ordinary Ghanaian patronize us. Rather, they will keep mute and hype the foreign acts,” he fumed. He continued to say that if a DJ decides to over play a particular song with bad content in a short possible of time, that song will become very popular which will make everyone dance to it or play it in their various places.

He is requesting that the media would help them since they can communicate to Ghanaians about what they are doing instead of the negative news.

He again hinted that comedians in Ghana are doing very well with their comedy skills both local and international but they can’t do without the support from the media. They will appreciate it if the media supports them.  He lamented that entertainment shows in Ghana only discuss music and other aspects of entertainment leaving them to face their own battles without any help.

“I have three awards and no media person has ever spoken about it which will push my brand up to get more recognition in the entertainment industry and Ghana as a whole but I will be all over the place if I fail to thrill audience at an event,” he stressed.

He complained that though bloggers honour his invitation to be part of his performances, yet they don’t write anything or discuss it on any platform. Lekzy DeComic also mentioned that their major challenge is that corporate bodies are not willing to support their works, which has now turned into ‘whom you know affairs’.

Lekzy is now planning on branding himself very well so that he can get to a lot of people with his comedy globally. Moreover, his comedy show which is laughline will run every month. He will soon start his Campus and Regional Tourwhich will kick start from the Northern Region and descend to the nation’s capital with a climax of the entire programme in one of the biggest auditoriums in Accra and the venue will be disclosed soon.

He appreciated some companies for supporting comedy over the years. Lakzy DeComedy will be having his first comedy show in 2018 which comes off on 3rd February, 2018 at the Global Cinemas at Weija.
