I was surprised I won female vocalist award at VGMA – Adina

Ghanaian songstress, Adina, was surprised to have won the Best Female Vocalist Award at the 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).

Speaking to Kojo Akoto Boateng on Citi TV’s ‘Saturday Live’ show on Saturday, she said even though she won the same award last year, she wasn’t expecting another win.

“I was surprised when I won the female vocalist award, not because I didn’t think I deserved it but because of the names of the list,” the ‘Makoma’ hit maker disclosed.

“Last year, I also won the same award. So last year was like ‘Oh my goodness, really?’. But this year it was like ‘ok, all the people on the list were also working hard, I saw them…so it was encouraging to be picked among the lot on the list,” she added.

When asked if the award put any pressure on her, she noted that it motivates her to do better.

“I feel like I have a responsibility not to let vocalists in Ghana down, but I am working on it to make sure I become a better version of myself any time,” she noted.

Other artists who were nominated in the Best Female Vocalist of the Year category in the 2018 VGMA were Nana Yaa, Efya, Mzvee and Becca.

Adina made this revelation when she joined highlife artiste Rex Omar, budding act QueiQu Aphro and the Characters Band for the first episode of Season 4 of Citi TV’s live band show, ‘Saturday Live.’
