A contractor with the Urban Roads and a resident engineer for the Circle project, Philip Ansah who revealed this said though the Police have not fully completed investigations into the accident, preliminary investigations revealed that the 26 year-old driver failed his breaks.
He said the truck driver after sensing danger forcibly applied the breaks but failed, veered off and crashed into rail gurds on the overhead.
“It is just a mere accident. According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the driver in the process of dodging another car tried applying breaks but unfortunately fell off the interchange and landed on the ground,” he said.
The truck en route to Kaneshie lost its balance as it ascended the interchange and fell from the newly constructed bridge onto a moving 207 Benz Bus.
Some of the passengers who were critically injured were rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment.
Speaking on Adom FM’s “Dwaso Nsem” Morning Show Thursday, Mr Ansah said the driver of the articulated truck who suffered minor injuries as a result of the accident would be invited by the police to help with investigations.
He said the accident has not affected the strength of the interchange adding that the broken rail guards would be repaired very soon.
However, Adom News’ Shine Acquah who was at the scene reported that the accident scene has been blocked to prevent heavy trucks from using the overpass.
He said traders and drivers are moving about with their normal duties as personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service clears the road for free flow of traffic.
