Rising Afro-pop songstress, Lamisi has expressed her disappointment at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) academy board, describing some of their nominations as ‘stupid’.
An obviously not too happy Lamisi said even though some musicians are confused with the genre of music they do, the VGMA academy board who are professionals must have known better and properly nominate artistes in categories that define the kind of music they do.
“Excuse me to say that some of the nominations for this year’s VGMA are stupid, how can someone who does dancehall songs get nominations in categories for Hiplife artistes. Some of the artistes are confused with the kind of genre of music they do but the [VGMA] academy board should have done the right thing” the “Tanka Fanka” hitmaker fumed on Tamale based Radio Justice’s Super Morning Show on Wednesday.
Charterhouse on Saturday unveiled the nomination list for the 2018 VGMAs which sparked several controversies across the country.
Whereas some described the selection as abysmal, others said it was an attempt to sabotage some hardworking musicians.
For Lamisi, Charterhouse doesn’t want the betterment of Musicians in Northern Ghana, saying “How can artistes in northern Ghana win awards abroad and is not recognized in his or her own country?”.
She wondered why artistes like Atongo, King Ayisoba, Rocky Dawuni, Wiyaala and Sherifa Gunu have gained international recognition and are winning international awards but are not recognized and awarded in the country.
Lamisi joined calls for every region to have its own awards scheme, noting that, that it is the only way hardworking musicians in the regions can be rewarded for their good works.
