Samira Bawumia, wife of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, was adjudged Style Icon of 2017 at the third edition of the Glitz Style Awards held over the weekend.
The beautiful woman and mother four, who is loved for her high sense of fashion, becomes the third personality from the corridors of power to pick the award.
Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings and Dr Joyce Aryee were the earlier winners of the category in 2015 and 2016 respectively.
The fashion honours which took place at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra on Saturday was to celebrate individuals setting trends with their fashion styles.
It was attended by leading figures and icons in the fashion, creative arts and entertainment industry from Ghana and Nigeria, including Nigeria’s celebrated actress Stephanie Okereke.
Speaking at the event, Samira encouraged fashion stakeholders to use their platforms to impact positively the lives of people and society at large.
Other winners of the awards ceremony include Zynnel Zuh, Bola Ray, Berla Mundi, Toke Makinwa and many others.
Red carpet designer of the year went to Sima Brew, while Roselyn Ashkar took home the model of the year award. Nigeria’s Toke Makinwa was also named style influencer of the year (Africa).
Most stylish movie star of the year, Glitz Africa Magazine stylish celebrity, African designer of the year, most stylish artiste of the year categories were won by Zynnel Zuh, Joselyn Dumas, Mai Atafo and Okyeame Kwame respectively.
The rest include emerging designer of the year, most stylish business executive of the year, fashion blog of the year (Africa), best dressed celebrity on red carpet, fashion photographer of the year, most stylish media personality of the year and make-up artist of the year, which also went to Quofi Akotuah, Bola Ray, Bella Naija, Nana Akua Addo, Nii Djarbeng (LightVille), Berla Mundi and Valerie Lawson in that order.
Radford University College was honoured with outstanding contributor to fashion/outstanding achievement award.
