Often referred to as ‘The Lioness of Africa’, Wiyaala in an interview with KMJ on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz stated that there was no way she could win the most coveted category because of the kind of songs she does.
The artiste who often sings in Sisala and English has observed that her style does not sync with most Ghanaians because she does not follow the trend – she would have to change her style if she desires to be crowned Artiste of the Year.
“Unfortunately, in Ghana, the awards are someway and I wouldn’t fool myself. I don’t see myself winning Artiste of the Year because of the music I do. If I want to, that means I probably have to change the style to fit in but because I want to be free to do music the way I want to, I should forget it. It will never happen,” she noted.
Per the description given by Charterhouse, organisers of the annual Ghana Music Awards, “the Artiste of the Year is the Artiste(s) adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as the Artiste(s) with the highest audience appeal and popularity. The Artiste(s) must have released a hit single/album during the year under review.”
