Managing director of the Golden Movie Awards Africa scheme, Mimi Adani Michaels has disclosed the jury of the awards is indifferent about emotions of filmmakers whose works have been rejected.
The nominees’ announcements held at the Parlez de la cultueur in Ivorian capital Abidjan was made up of 25 categories with Cameroonian productions in the lead.
Though Ghana and Nigeria also had an appreciable number of nominations, Burkina Faso had none.
“We had Burkina Faso submitting but they didn’t make it,” Mimi said.
“If a film submitted for the Golden Movie Awards has so many nominations it means that they did something great in all. Mostly they (jury) consider everything. Some films come with bad acting yet good cinematography but we the scheme, it’s a total package.”
Ghanaian productions, ‘Baabani’, ‘Side Chic Gang’ and ‘Potato Photato’ were the three Ghanaian movies with prominent nominations.
JoyNews’ MzGee asked Mimi Adani Michaels if Burkina Faso’s fate (no nomination) in this season would not deter the country from participating in subsequent years.
Mimi said, “…that’s one thing about Golden Movie Awards jury, they don’t care. They don’t care about emotions, they don’t believe in sharing. Oh let give to encourage, No! It’s an award scheme that’s only based on performance…”
The awards night is scheduled for June 2, 2018 at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel Accra.
