The incident which happened last Saturday sparked days of protests on the streets of Wa by some incensed youth who were enraged by the alleged action.
Addressing the media on the issue, the Deputy Regional Police Commander, ACP Edward Oduro Kwarteng appealed for calm while confirming the arrest of the personnel involved.
“The rifle went off hitting the abdomen of the complainant. A mob descended on suspect as reinforcement came to the rescue of suspect. Aliu Rashhed has been discharged from hospital, and the suspect has been arrested and detained for investigation. Police Corporal No. 41723, James Kufah who was a victim of a mob attack at the Ghana Commercial Bank has been treated and discharged. The Wa Police Command will like to use this opportunity to appeal to the public to remain calm while we investigate the case.
Meanwhile, the Policewoman who insulted residents of Wa in the Upper West region on Facebook in connection with the case has been transferred to the Police headquarters in Accra for further investigations into the matter.
Believe Amedzro described the residents as ‘fools’ and their forefathers ‘criminals’, on her Facebook wall Tuesday.
Although she has denied making the comments on Facebook, the regional police command says the matter is being taken seriously.
